District Overview

Anthony High SchoolThe Anthony Independent School District (AISD) has seen an increase in student enrollment from 769 in 2003-2004 to 816 for the 2005-2006 school year. Although Anthony ISD has only three schools (PK-5; 6-8; and 9-12), it stands poised to accept an increase over the next three to five years with the development of two new housing areas with upward of 250 new homes. With the expected growth and the many issues associated with student travel, AISD, along with Tornillo ISD, Fabens ISD and Clint High School are now part of the new District I-AAA.

Anthony is unique in that it is considered a rural community, yet sits midway between Las Cruces, New Mexico and downtown EI Paso with accessibility from 1-10, the Anthony Gap and Trans-Mountain. The district’s mission is to prepare all students for life and learning beyond high school taking advantage of their unique bilingual and bicultural heritage.

Although AISD is a small district, it has made a major investment in technology and associated infrastructure. The role of technology at AISD is to achieve excellence and equity in student performance. This will be accomplished by using technology to accelerate instruction especially for special populations, particularly our language minority students. For all students, technology is expected to stimulate creativity and curiosity as well as to assist in the development of problem-solving and higher order thinking skills. Finally, technology will be utilized to establish the levels of technological literacy and competence to provide students with the skills that they will need in the future.

The district has made a full commitment to the Technology Applications, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and has focused Career and Technology courses in the areas of Business and Technology. Also, by utilizing assessment tools such as NWEA (Northwest Evaluation Association) MAP Program, TAKS Released Tests, STAR Test and teacher-made assessments, the district has the capacity to track and monitor student progress and achievement during the school year; and throughout the student’s academic career. This also allows teachers to make continuous adjustments to instructional delivery to meet the student’s academic needs.

It is a goal of the district to have its students not only meet state-assessment standards, but to achieve academic excellence.
