The Anthony Middle School (AMS) strives to meet the academic needs of its diverse student body. We utilize assessment tools such as NWEA (Northwest Evaluation Association) Map Program, TAKS Released Tests, STAR Test and teacher-made assessments to determine the academic level of each individual student. Assessment is conducted throughout the academic year allowing teachers and staff to monitor the students’ progress. A plan of action is determined for each student in order to:
• Achieve academic excellence
• Meet state-assessment standards
• Prepare for success in subsequent grade levels
Our regular education program consists of required courses in reading, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, physical education and health. In addition, students with accelerated math skills have the opportunity to advance to Algebra I during their 8th grade year and receive a high school math credit. Spanish I may also be taken as an 8th grade elective for a high school foreign language credit. Depending on the grade level of the student, available electives include Technology, Keyboarding, Career Investigations, Physical Education (mandatory for 6th grade), and Band.
At Anthony Middle School we place great importance on character building to help our students develop positive character traits. These traits—honesty, accepting responsibility, ethical conduct, perseverance—are virtues that will serve them throughout their lives.
