Ron Haugen, Superintendent of the Anthony Independent School District, began his tenure at AISD on August 1, 2007. Mr. Haugen comes to the district with thirty two years of experience in the educational profession. Mr. Haugen received his bachelor’s degree in education from Arizona State University in 1975 and in that same year began his teaching career as an 8th grade Social Studies teacher at Gadsden Junior High in Anthony, New Mexico. In 1978, he transferred to Gadsden High School where he taught History and coached football and track for four years. Mr. Haugen received his Masters degree in Educational Administration from UTEP in 1980 and assumed his first administrative position in 1982 as an assistant principal and athletic director at Gadsden High School. In 1992, he joined the Canutillo Independent School District for a period of six and one half years where he served as an elementary assistant principal and middle school principal. In 1998, Mr. Haugen returned to Gadsden as the principal of Santa Teresa High School until 2001 when he was named the Superintendent of GISD, a position he held until his retirement in July of 2007.

Mr. Haugen is married to Rossana who is an assistant principal with EPISD. Between them they have five children with three being college graduates, one in college, and one in elementary school. Originally from Iowa, Mr. Haugen has lived in the Upper Valley area for 32 years.
