Blended Learning:

What It Means for Your Child

Blended Learning

At Anthony Elementary, we are committed to helping every student succeed by providing learning experiences that are engaging, personalized, and effective. One way we are doing this is through blended learning.

We are proud to share that Anthony Elementary has even been recognized at the
TEA Blended Learning Summit as a district spotlight, highlighting the strong work happening in our classrooms. We also have a blended learning logo that represents our commitment to this model and supports students in understanding the structure of their learning.

What is Blended Learning?

Blended learning combines teacher instruction with technology to create a more personalized learning experience for students.

At Anthony Elementary School, students rotate through four centers:

  • Teacher Center
  • Independent Center
  • Tech Center
  • Collaboration Center

In a blended learning classroom:

  • Students work in small groups with the teacher
  • Students use technology that adapts to their needs
  • Lessons adjust based on student progress while maintaining instruction at grade level

This structure allows students to learn at their own pace while staying engaged and supported.

Why blended learning and how it impacts academic growth?

We are starting in Kindergarten through 2nd grade to build strong foundational skills early.

Blended learning helps:

  • Close learning gaps sooner
  • Prepare students for upper grades
  • Increase engagement and confidence

Students also begin to understand their progress, set goals, and take ownership of their learning.

As part of our blended learning grant, we have added additional support in ELAR through a Teacher Leader and an Associate Teacher. The Teacher Leader is a certified teacher who provides core instruction and focuses on addressing instructional gaps. The Associate Teacher, who may be a certified teacher or paraprofessional, provides targeted support to help students strengthen the specific skills they need to reach grade-level proficiency.

In Year 1 of the grant, our team includes:

  • Kindergarten: Mayra Barbosa (Teacher Leader) and Amanda Matta (Associate Teacher)
  • 1st Grade: Jasmine Miranda (Teacher Leader) and Sarah Bustillos (Associate Teacher)
  • 2nd Grade: Maria Flores Yañez (Teacher Leader) and Mireya Carmona (Associate Teacher)

Together, they provide students with extra support and practice tailored to their needs. They also meet with students to review their data, discuss areas for growth, and set achievable learning goals. This ensures instruction is focused, personalized, and effective in closing learning gaps.

What is i-Ready?

i-Ready is a program that helps teachers meet students exactly where they are.

It has two parts:

Diagnostic (Assessment):

Adjusts to your child’s answers to determine what they know and what they need to learn.

Personalized Instruction:

Provides lessons at your child’s level so they can learn at the right pace.

Students stay motivated through class competitions, where winning classes earn a trophy and extra recess. We also provide individual incentives such as scratch-and-sniff stickers, pull-apart erasers, and fun activities like obstacle courses or movie days. Students earn rewards by completing lessons and maintaining strong performance, making success achievable for all.

Read the iReady Family Guide (English) or the iReady Family Guide (Spanish) to learn more about i-Ready.

What is our goal as a district with Blended Learning?

Our goal is to build a strong foundation in blended learning across all grade levels.

  • Current focus: Kindergarten through 2nd grade
  • Expansion: 3rd–5th grade fully joining in 2026–2027

We are supported by a TEA Blended Learning Strategic Operations grant that provides funding and resources for programs like i-Ready, as well as professional development for teachers.

Our long-term goal is to become a fully blended-learning district from Pre-K through 5th grade, with the hope of expanding this success to throughout the district.
