Elementary Attendance Policy

Anthony Independent School District (AISD) is committed to academic excellence for all students. According to the Texas education Agency (TEA), students must attend school for at least 90% of the academic school year. Students need to receive the required amount of instruction to achieve academic success and social emotional learning. The following guidelines will be enforced to ensure your student is meeting the required expectations and is set up for academic success. If your child exceeds the 90% rule, they are at risk for retention in the same grade level for another year. (Grade placement committee decision)

  • To excuse an absence for a student without a doctor’s note, three parent notes are allowed per semester (sickness only). (Vacations, Sports events will not be excused for any reason)
  • If a student has three or more absences, a notification letter will be sent home with the students.
  • Any student with four or more unexcused absences will require a parent conference with the administration staff to assign a 45-day attendance policy plan, which will require the student and parent to follow. Further details will be provided to the students and parents at the time of the conference to ensure the plan is understood and will be followed.
  • Students with 10 or more unexcused absences will be reported to the Truancy court and a hearing will be scheduled.
  • Students who leave before 2:00 p.m. will be counted as unexcused for half the day unless a note is provided to excuse the absence.
  • Students will not be taken out of school after 2:45 p.m. unless the reason by the parent is communicated and approved by the administration staff.
  • Administration conferences will be held at the end of the day (after 3:10 P.M.)

Tardy Policy

Students are expected to arrive at school on time each day to support academic success and maintain a focused learning environment in every classroom.

  • Students who accumulate 5 tardies will be assigned 2 days of academic support during recess to make up any missed assignments or instructional time.
  • Parents/guardians will receive written notification when a student reaches 5 tardies.
  • Continued punctuality is essential to ensure students receive the full benefit of daily instruction.
